Motor liability comparison right here

We're preparing a comparison of quotes from three insurers. We already have the vehicle's technical data from the register, so you won't be copying anything from the log book.

  • You add only age, postcode and no-claims history
  • Three quotes side by side
  • Arrange online or with an adviser

Until the tool goes live, our broker will calculate the price — comparing the market and coming back with a concrete offer.

How do I find out how long my STK is valid?

You can find out how long the roadworthiness test is valid by entering the VIN or the number of the vehicle registration certificate (osvědčení o registraci vozidla, the small technical licence) into the form above — the data is loaded straight from the Road Vehicle Register and you see the result immediately. The date is also recorded in the vehicle log book and on the inspection sticker on the number plate. Validity cannot, however, be looked up publicly by registration number; the register is kept under VINs and document numbers.

An expired roadworthiness test is not just a question of a fine. A vehicle without a valid STK is considered technically unfit for the road, and in the event of an accident the insurer may reduce the payout or claim part of the settled loss back. Checking the date is therefore quick insurance for every driver.

  1. 1Choose how you want to identify the vehicle — by VIN, by the number of the vehicle registration certificate, or by the number of the vehicle log book.
  2. 2Enter the number and submit the query; the tool asks the Road Vehicle Register.
  3. 3You see straight away how long the STK is valid, how many days remain and basic details about the vehicle.

An indicative overview by vehicle category. What always counts is the entry in the vehicle log book and the legislation in force.

Avoid a fine

Driving with an expired roadworthiness test risks a fine and, in serious cases, having the number plates taken away.

Protect your insurance payout

In an accident involving a technically unfit vehicle, the insurer may reduce the payout or seek recourse.

Buying a used car

An approaching STK date is a bargaining argument as well as a signal to inspect the car thoroughly.

Frequently asked questions

How often is the STK carried out?
For new passenger cars the first test takes place four years after registration and every two years after that. Different intervals apply to older vehicles and to some categories.
What are the consequences of an expired roadworthiness test?
It is an offence carrying a fine and the vehicle is considered technically unfit for the road. If the delay drags on, the authorities may even begin steps leading to the vehicle being withdrawn from service.
Does an expired STK affect insurance?
Yes, it can. If the technical condition of the vehicle contributed to the loss, the insurer may reduce the payout under comprehensive motor insurance and seek recourse against the driver at fault under motor third-party liability insurance (povinné ručení).
Is a roadworthiness test from abroad valid?
Once the vehicle is entered in the Czech register, a roadworthiness test under Czech rules is required. Imported vehicles also undergo an inspection before registration.
Where do I find the exact date?
The most reliable sources are the entry in the vehicle log book and the data in the Road Vehicle Register. Our tool is there for quick orientation.
Why is the search by VIN and not by registration number?
The Road Vehicle Register makes technical data available under the vehicle identification number (VIN) and under document numbers, not under the registration number. There is no public search for a vehicle by its registration number in the Czech Republic — this relates to personal data protection, because the plate leads directly to the operator. If you do not have the VIN to hand, use the number of the vehicle registration certificate, which is usually kept in the car.
Where do I find the vehicle's VIN?
The VIN is a seventeen-character code made up of letters and digits. You will find it in both the vehicle log book and the registration certificate, and it is usually stamped on the bodywork itself — typically under the windscreen, in the engine bay or by the driver's door sill.
Can I check the STK without the vehicle documents?
Yes, provided you know the VIN — it is stamped on the vehicle bodywork. Without the VIN and without the document numbers, the validity of the roadworthiness test cannot be found online.
Is the STK validity check free?
Yes. The tool is free, requires no registration and no personal data. The data is loaded from the Road Vehicle Register, administered by the Ministry of Transport.
How far in advance can I go for the STK?
The test can be taken before the current validity runs out. The new interval is then usually counted from the date of the new test, so going very early costs you part of the validity. It is generally practical to go shortly before it expires.
