When you will need it

You are applying for a stay over 90 days

Health insurance is submitted both for a long-term visa and for long-term residence.

You are extending your current residence

Insurance is submitted again for the follow-on period when you extend.

You are not in the public system

If you do not work for a Czech employer and do not hold permanent residence, you are usually not in public health insurance.

What to watch out for

Cover the whole period applied for

The insurance should cover the period you are applying for. A shorter policy is a common reason for a request to supplement the application.

Scope of cover

Long-term residence generally calls for comprehensive cover, not only urgent and necessary care.

Gaps between policies

Arrange the follow-on policy in advance. Even a single day without cover can be a problem.

A certificate in the right language

Proof of insurance is usually available in Czech and English. Check in advance what the authority asks for.
