Example prices (October 2026)
For a 21-year-old student, 12 months of comprehensive cover, our calculator showed these prices on 6 October 2026:
| Insurer | 12 months |
|---|---|
| Colonnade | CZK 12,635 |
| Slavia (student offer valid until 31 October 2026) | CZK 12,800 |
| SV pojišťovna | CZK 15,059 |
| Pojišťovna VZP | CZK 23,590 |
The difference between the cheapest and the most expensive offer is almost CZK 11,000 a year - for cover that has to meet the same legal minimum. Prices change, so treat the table as an illustration and check today's prices in the calculator.
What the price depends on
- Age. Insurers price by age bands; the price usually rises with age.
- Length of the policy. You pay for the months you are covered. A two-year policy costs roughly twice as much as a one-year one.
- Student rate. Some insurers have a lower rate for students, often up to a certain age. Others price students the same as everyone else - one of the main reasons the offers differ.
- Pregnancy. Insurers have special conditions for pregnant women; the price is worked out individually with an advisor.
What does not move the price much: your nationality, your passport or where in the Czech Republic you live.
Why insurers differ
Every policy for a student visa has to meet the same legal conditions - a limit of at least EUR 400,000 per claim, no excess and, within 90 days of arrival, comprehensive cover from an insurer authorised in the Czech Republic. What differs is the tariff, the network of partner doctors and hospitals, extra benefits and how the insurer handles claims.
That is why it pays to compare before you buy, not after the embassy appointment is booked. More on what the visa requires.
How to compare
In our calculator you enter your age, the length of the policy and whether you study. You then see the insurers side by side and can arrange the policy online or with an advisor.
